About SASMIRA
The Synthetic & Art Silk Mills' Research Association (SASMIRA) is a cooperative venture of the Man-Made Textile Industry of India. Set up in 1950, SASMIRA is responsible for developing and managing the scientific and technological needs of the industry. Gauging SASMIRA's diverse objectives and span of capabilities, it is recognized by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, under the Ministry of Science & Technology, and linked to the Ministry of Textiles.
The Synthetic & Art Silk Mills' Research Association (SASMIRA) is an organisation involved in R&D, consultancy, technical & testing services to support the Indian textile industry and having its presence over the last sixty seven years. In order to support the textile trade and industry by way of providing technical manpower, the institute has established a poly-technic college providing Diploma in Textiles and the educational activities are being held over the past seventy years.
SASMIRA commenced operations with the testing and then expanded its activities to keep pace with the evolving needs of the man-made textile industry. Over time it further broadened its portfolio to cater to the escalating demands of the emerging technical textiles' industry. The laboratories of SASMIRA are equipped with the state of art machineries and instruments to carry out R&D projects in the frontier areas of science and technology in the field of textile and allied areas. The testing facilities include physical/ mechanical, chemical, analytical, biological and technical textile testing laboratories. These laboratories are accredited nationally by the National Board for Accreditation of Laboratories (NABL), India and internationally by the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA), USA as per Quality Management System- ISO/IEC 17025:2005. These laboratories provide testing and technical services to the textile industry along with training, consulting services and R&D over the last six decades. SASMIRA has been designated as "Centre of Excellence in Agro Textile (COE)" by The Ministry of Textile, GOI to provide focused services to the industry in the area of technical textiles pertaining to agriculture applications.
In the over seven decades of its existence, SASMIRA has aptly demonstrated its credentials, serving the textile industry and accelerating its growth. Textile mills, processing units, garment manufacturers, traders and exporters have derived multiple benefits from SASMIRA's wide spectrum of services and facilities.
